S/Y Phoenix was built in 1999/2001 as a Modern Classic to the plans drawn by John Alden in 1931. The construction of the steel hull has been kept as close as possible to the original design and specifications. The original schooner built in 1931 once raced against “America” – and won! This summer S/Y Phoenix made easily 9,5 knots without any effort.
This stunning sailing yacht was built by Nikolai Shipyard and known to be built to Lloyds 100 A1 standards. Stepping aboard you will see the quality of construction shows everywhere. She has a steel superstructure with massive oak panelling under teak-marine ply. All the portholes in the hull and superstructure are also stainless steel. All teak has been perfectly varnished, she has new antifouling an new anodes.
This schooner is an exquisite example of one of the very few Custom John G Alden Schooners that have been built. She has just undergone complete surface exterior and interior refit. S/Y Phoenix has always been used privately, but due to her exceptionally large interior space, she would make a great charter vessel.

This schooner provides a great sailing experience with her cruising speed being 9 knots and the potential to reach 12 knots. She has great stability through the waves whilst sailing and motoring due to her steel hull and superstructure. With her bow thruster, she even gives great control when berthing. The yacht has a mechanical ‘worm drive’ steering with a hydraulic gearbox and a three bladed, bronze propeller.

This interior is designed to maximise the space available with also light finishing and furnishings to fully take advantage of the sunlight. She is a great for a family lifestyle and cruising – with an open galley-saloon set up and the deckhouse all free flowing throughout the boat.
When the summers get too warm, you can retreat into the air-conditioned interior where the whole boat has been re-carpeted, painted and the dark panels varnished. With the tall ceilings and large beam, this schooner will always make it feel spacious and a calming atmosphere.
This schooner has 3 large cabins in the main structure and a smaller one at the bow with its own entrance. The crew has their own quarters at the aft. The stylish deckhouse contains the chart table and navigation equipment. This deckhouse flows into the guest cabins and large, open saloon-galley.
She can hold 6,900 L of fuel and 6,500 L of fresh water. The two generators are in a soundproof box and are from Kohler.
MASTER CABIN
The master cabin is a double berth with a sky light and port holes to allow the natural light to enter. It also contains a desk and its own en-suite shower and toilet.
GUEST CABINS
The two guest cabins are twins with bunk beds. Both these have their own en-suite bathroom. The bow cabins contains its own entrance with en-suite. It is smaller but is perfect for kids.
SALOON-GALLEY
Saloon has its own desk space and bar storage space. A U-shaped sofa/dining space on starboard and the fully functional galley on port. The galley has a electric stove, microwave, oven, fridge-freezer and sink. Off from the galley is the utility room which has space for a washing machine, dryer and second fridge-freezer.
